Afrox's African Welding Company (AWC) has expanded its Böhler Welding (Böhler) product line distribution on the African continent.

As its main distributor, AWC made an expansion decision after its participation in a joint venture with South African gas giant Afrox, which resulted in Böhler holding a majority stake in the Brits consumable factory and full management responsibility.

As an "independent entity" of Afrox, AWC occupies a position dedicated to the Böhler product line, which is strengthened by the connection between AWC and Afrox.

Gerhard van Wyk, head of AWC.

Gerhard van Wyk, head of AWC, stated that the company operates independently of Afrox and added: “We are bringing to the market a world-class Böhler product that can compete with all other high-quality welding consumables and equipment brands including Afrox.”

By arranging the use of facilities at 11 local Afrox outlets, AWC is provided with a nationwide delivery and collection network. These will house Böhler products that can be clicked for pickup or delivered directly.

After negotiations with several Afrox and Linde locations across Africa, the AWC network may be further expanded.

The broader appeal of the Böhler series is also reflected in its recently launched series of "competitively priced" universal electrodes and consumables, including AWS E6013 universal MMA electrodes and low-hydrogen Böhler AWS E7018 electrodes.

The company also supplies consumables for the oil and gas, power and nuclear industries, as well as general and special welding wires, such as robotics and mechanical applications.

Van Wyk hinted that AWC's global network allows sourcing products from all over the world.

"UTP high-end products and solutions are often made in Germany, but we can also get more economical products from Asia, and the UK factory provides an increasingly important localization opportunity for products made in Africa," he said.

With its recognized small and dedicated team, Van Wyk praised the company and its "extensive network."

"With these relationships, we can compete with the best companies in the world," he added.

Afrox, a South African gas and welding product supplier, has built a new construction site solution centered on multi-user pressure panels (MUPP) and combined its Miller ArcReach products with its GasReach series to improve welding capabilities for field work.

Industrial gas supplier Afrox will invest 20 million rand (US$1.7 million) to expand its range of specialty gas mixtures to build an automated gravity filling plant while enhancing its analytical capabilities.

Afrox, a member of Linde plc, issued a force majeure notice after the vehicle was interrupted on the main road from N3 KZN (KwaZulu Natal) to Gauteng in South Africa.
